Writer clarifies previous letter

I would like to take a moment to clarify my recent letter to the editor regarding Ronald Reagan's continued popularity, and comments made by those polled, regarding why they liked Ronald Reagan.
At the close of my letter, I mentioned Adolph Hitler, Idi Amin, and Ted Bundy as all shining examples of people who were considered "charismatic," "good looking," and "good speakers." These are the terms most frequently heard when Ronald Reagan is the subject of conversation.
My intent was not to compare Ronald Reagan, with these horrible people. My intent is to suggest that when you are attracted to a person (in this case, a political leader) of any type, based only on those aforementioned subjective qualities, and overlook what's under the surface, you run the risk of falling victim to the negative aspects of that person.
For those of you who were offended by my last letter, I hope this clarifies my stance for you. As it was not my intent to draw any direct comparisons.

The federal government's (lack of) thinking regarding gun control
No law has ever prevented a person with evil intent from committing murder, assaults, theft, or any other crime. People were murdered long before firearms were invented. Guns are inanimate objects, capable of being used for both defense as well as evil acts.
Reader thinks ballot process is too complex
I went to the Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District office to apply for an absentee ballot.
Reader supports incumbent
I believe Allan Burritt is the right choice for being elected to the Moses Lake School District Board. I have found Allan to be a committed and dedicated individual when it comes to caring about the success of students who is motivated due to a genuine, sincere interest in doing good. I have found him to possess the valuable quality of striving for improvements for student success but also sensitive to, and understanding of, the economic realities we are facing today. When voting, I encourage you to consider these factors and vote for Allan Burritt as member of the Moses Lake School District Board.
