MATTAWA - Seth Weeks and Jay Scott were voted to the Wahluke School Board and Mike Noftle was elected to the Royal School Board in contested races in the Nov. 8 general election.

A truckload of other individuals were elected to board and councils without opposition. There were still 250 ballots to be counted on Nov. 10 countywide, but no result was expected to change.

In contested races, Weeks was given the nod over Lorraine Jenne, 305-235. His campaign called for an "attitude adjustment" to improve the schools to a level of yesteryear.

In the second MSD race, Scott was chosen over two-year incumbent Cynthia de Victoria, who had been appointed to the board. Both have experience in education. Scott won 328-191.

In Royal City, Mike Noftle was chosen over Ben Fanning, 406-284. Noftle's campaign included high praise for the educators in the district.

There were two other contested races. In Grant County Fire District (GCFD) No. 8 (Mattawa), Scott J. Nesbitt won over Richard Kummer, 354-141, and Debra Crain defeated Diane M. Shimmin, 304-170.

In uncontested races:

* Scott L. Hyndman, Brian Berghout, Ellen Hopkins, Anabel De La Garza, Maggie Celaya and Vicente Acosta were elected to the Mattawa City Council. Judy Esser was returned to the mayor's seat.

* The Royal City Council saw the election of Preston Kent Anderson, Hector Rodriguez and Rick M. Farrer.

* Current President Lois Thiede, Jerry Yorgesen and Craig Sabin were elected to the Wahluke School Board.

* Bob Murphy and Craig Janett were returned to the Royal School Board.

* Ray Wardenaar won election to the GCFD No. 11 (Royal City) board.

* Robert D. Weber and Michael J. Moore were elected to the GCFD No. 10 (Royal City) board.

* Becky J. Carter and Deb Murphy were returned to the Grant County Health District (Royal City) No. 7.

* Maureen Saucedo and Joan Murphy were elected to the Royal City Cemetery board.
