COEUR d'ALENE - Four people, including a toddler, were taken to Kootenai Medical Center following an accident that set off a chain reaction at U.S. 95 and Appleway about 10:30 a.m. Monday.

According to the Idaho State Police, Fred Rohns, 69, Coeur d'Alene, was northbound on U.S. 95 in a 1999 Dodge pickup when, due to a medical condition, he was unable to stop and struck a 2006 Kia Sorrento driven by Cynthia Walker, 53, Post Falls.

Police said Walker's vehicle was pushed into a light pole, while Rohns' truck continued and struck a 2006 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Chris Copstead, 63, Coeur d'Alene. Copstead's vehicle, in turn hit a 2003 Mercury Sable driven by Kevin Butigan, 33, Post Falls.

Fred Rohn was listed in fair condition at KMC Monday night, while a passenger in his car, Vicki Rohn, 60, was listed in good condition.

Cynthia Walker was treated and released. A 4-year-old passenger was taken to KMC, but their condition was not available.

Copstead was not hurt. Butigan and his passengers, Janelle Winey, 28, Post Falls, and a 4-year-old boy, were also not hurt.

All involved except for Vicki Rohn were wearing seat belts.

An investigation continues.
