COEUR d'ALENE - The Dalton Gardens man who was arrested over the weekend for allegedly trying to light his wife on fire after dumping gasoline on her has bonded out of Kootenai County jail.
Daniel J. Zehm, 52, posted the required $200,000 bail bond and was freed, Kootenai County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ben Wolfinger said Tuesday.
Kootenai County prosecutors charged Zehm with battery with intent to commit a serious felony. He's also charged with burglary, for entering his own home with the intent of committing a felony.
Zehm has no prior criminal history, and currently is unemployed.
A sheriff's department report said he took gasoline from his shop behind his home and dumped it on his wife, Sondra Zehm, in their kitchen on Sunday morning. He then allegedly tried to ignite the gasoline on her with a lighter, but she ran into a bedroom and then bolted from their home.
They have been married two years, and live at 6103 N. 15th St. They began squabbling Saturday night over a woman at a Hayden retirement home where Daniel Zehm's mother lives. Zehm had said the woman is attractive, and had apparently described her boyfriend as a loser.
No-contact orders have been issued to prevent Zehm from coming near his wife or the nurse at Wellspring Meadows retirement community.
