In an attempt to cut costs Boundary County School District No. 101 is consulting with Chartwells Food Services to do an analysis of food cost for district food programs.

Supt. Dick Connoly said no decisions  will be made until after the school board meets with the company on Jan. in a regular open meeting,  to look at the comparison.

The idea is to try to save money where the school district can and keeping healthy food and local people employed.

Chartwells is an international food service program which provide healthy school food programs for 500 school districts.

On the Chartwells website they state, “Nourishing students is not only our business; it's our commitment to the communities in which we serve.  Chartwells is a diverse family of dedicated food and nutrition specialists serving the academic community. We deliver customized solutions that benefit our partners through innovative programs.”

Connolly said the company is reviewing kitchen and food service policies, and taking a look at how they may operate at a lower cost by performing a cost analysis.

At the meeting on Jan. 10, they will be taking questions from faculty, parents, board members and even student who have questions.

“They aren’t going to bring us a bus load of people to work in the kitchens,” said Connoly. “They will hire local people.”

Because Chartwells is a huge international company, Connoly said they can purchase food at a lower cost that who the school used now.
