SKC downs BCC in home opener to win first league game, plays

Montana-Western close

PABLO - Five different players scored in double digits as SKC rolled to a 106-63 victory over Blackfeet Community College last Tuesday, Nov. 15 and the Lady Bison picked up their first league win of the season.

Newcomer Sharna Frazier scored 19 first-half points in the victory and ended up leading SKC in scoring with 25 points. The Lady Bison held a 47-30 advantage at the half.

"She's going to be a dominant player," Lady Bison head coach Juan Perez said. "She only just started playing for us so when she's gets into game shape and gets strong she's got some big things to come."

SKC exploded for 59 second-half points in cruising to the victory over BCC, who was held to 33 points after halftime. Perez said the team was successful in pushing the ball on offense and that helped in their victory.

"It was nice to see it," Perez said of the offensive outburst. "But we need to do it against some of the mainstream colleges as well."

Montana-Western 76, SKC 57

Eva Green and Sharna Frazier both scored 14 points apiece but it wasn't quite enough as SKC fell in a close one to Montana-Western, 76-57.

"Offensively, I was a bit frustrated with our turnovers," Perez said.

SKC committed 34 turnovers in the game, but kept Montana- Western's shooting percentage down to 30 percent in the first half.

Trailing just 34-26 at halftime, the Lady Bison shot 43 percent in the second half but Montana-Western pulled away for the 76-57 victory.

Frazier ended the game with a triple-double, collecting 14 rebounds and 10 blocks. Chantel Jenkins also had nine points in the game.

"Eva Green is definitely coming along," Perez said. "She's been pretty consistent."

Montana-Western 76, SKC 63

The Lady Bison played Montana-Western closer but again turnovers nicked them in a 76-63 loss last Saturday. Three different SKC players scored in double digits and Frazier reached double digits in rebounds and scoring again.

"The positive you can take away from this is that we feel we didn't play very well and we still had an opportunity to be in the game," Perez said.

SKC found themselves down 37-23 at halftime after shooting 28 percent in the first half but came out on fire in the second and outscored Montana-Western 40-39 the rest of the way. The Lady Bison shot 48 percent from the field after halftime.

"We're definitely ahead of where we've been in past years," Perez said. "We just need to concentrate on our shots and getting back on defense."

Frazier finished the game with 14 points, while Polson's Charla Brown added 13. Shaylene Piedalue notched 11 points. Montana-Western had a rough shooting night, hitting just 29 percent of their shots in the second half and 31 percent of their shots in the entire game.

The Lady Bison will head to Rangely, Colo. on Dec. 2 to play Colorado Northwestern and then the College of Eastern Utah on Dec. 3. The next time the team is back home will be on Dec. 17 when they host the University of Montana.
