MILESTONE BIRTHDAY
Berthie Christie
104th Birthday
Berthie Christie celebrated her 104th birthday on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011.
Berthie talks about a life of adventure and accomplishments. Among her escapades, she remembers ski jumping as an Olympian, and singing in the opera in Italian, German, Swedish, Portuguese and English. Berthie moved from La Jolla, Calif., to settle down in Coeur d'Alene. She currently enjoys her days at The Four Seasons Assisted Living, where she still sings in the choir.
BIRTHS
Stephen French and Sarah Thornhill-French of Medford, Ore., welcomed a baby boy, Peyton Martin French, on Nov. 14, 2011. He weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz.
Seth Ernest Potter was born at 10:37 p.m. Nov. 16, 2011, to Heather and Travis Potter of Coeur d'Alene. He weighed 7 lbs. 13 oz. and was 21 inches long. Brothers are Elijah and Ezekiel. Maternal grandmother is Becky Isaac. Paternal grandparents are Dennis and Susan Potter.
Camden Kael Blackmon was born at 8:38 a.m. Nov. 18, 2011, to Rebecca Ann Blackmon of Coeur d'Alene. He weighed 8 lbs. and was 21.25 inches long. Brother is Cayden Joseph Toombs.
MILITARY
Navy Seaman Recruit Dustin J. Hall, a 2008 graduate of Lakeland High School, Rathdrum, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Hall completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
Coast Guard Seaman Kyle R. Siegwarth, son of Sharri I. and Robert E. Siegwarth, of Hayden Lake, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N. J.
During the eight-week training program, Siegwarth completed a vigorous training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, physical fitness, health and wellness, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship.
Siegwarth and other recruits also received instruction on the Coast Guard's Core Values - Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty - and how to apply them in their military performance and personal conduct. Siegwarth will join 36,000 other men and women who comprise the Coast Guard's workforce.
Siegwarth is a 2011 graduate of Coeur d'Alene High School in Coeur d'Alene.
