HAYDEN - The city of Hayden is inviting the public to attend a community meeting Tuesday on the controversial Strahorn Road issue.

The city of Hayden Lake changed a section of Strahorn to one-way along the Hayden Lake Country Club.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the city of Hayden's response and potential to lessen what it sees as adverse traffic impacts.

City of Hayden officials say they are concerned because the one-way has caused a lot of traffic to be re-routed onto other streets.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hayden City Hall, located at 8930 N. Government Way. A similar meeting was conducted on Oct. 4, when about 30 people turned out.

Strahorn was converted to a one-way between Miles Avenue and Hayden Avenue in September 2010, and the city of Hayden would like its smaller neighbor to change it back.

Hayden residents at the first meeting complained that traffic that had traveled Strahorn in the past now is using Hillview Drive, which is west of Strahorn and runs parallel to it.

The city of Hayden Lake cited high traffic volume, a narrow right-of-way and structural deficiencies when it made the change. Hayden Lake has said it doesn't have the funds to fix the roadway.

At the first meeting, Sean Hoisington, Hayden public works director, said the city is soliciting ideas from the public to mitigate the affect of the one-way.

Hayden city attorney Nancy Stricklin said there is nothing the city can legally do as that stretch of Strahorn is under the control of Hayden Lake.
