Joan M. Phelps, 85,

Joan Marion Phelps (Pudwill) was born Jan. 26, 1926, in Mobridge, S.D. She passed away on Nov. 26, 2011, in Post Falls. Joan was the daughter of Paul and Grace Pudwill and was one of five children: Buckley Pudwill (passed), Bismarck, N.D.; Clayton Pudwill (passed), Lemon, S.D.; Julia Warren "Toots" (passed), Rapid City, S.D.; Virginia Mattern (passed), Wallace, Idaho; and Jeanette Arnold, Albuquerque, N.M.

Joan grew up in McIntosh, S.D., and moved to Post Falls in 1955. She and Bud, her husband of 50 years, raised their five children: Gloria Simon, of Pablo, Mont.; Bobby Mader and wife Sharon of Liberty Lake, Wash.; Shirley Mader (passed) Rathdrum; Marilyn Desjarlais and favorite son-in-law Booy, Post Falls; and Paul Phelps, Coeur d'Alene.

Besides being a homemaker, Joan worked at Claire Pendar (General Instruments) and Altek up until the ripe old age of 72. Joan was active in her church (Community Presbyterian Church, Post Falls), loved to bowl with the girls, Joan was known for being a meticulous house keeper (OCD). But most of all spent her energy loving her family. She loved her flowers and working in the yard.

Joan had 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family sends out a heart felt thank you to all of the medical staff at Kootenai Medical Center, N.I.A.C.H., Life Care of Post Falls, River City Hospice, and her special caregiver Janie. And a very special thank you to Dr. S. Foster. There is no words great enough to express your compassion and caring for our mother and family, you are truly one of a kind.

A viewing will be held at English Funeral Chapel 1700 N. Spokane St. Post Falls, from 2-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2011.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Evergreen Cemetery, Post Falls. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Community Presbyterian Church, Post Falls, Idaho at 2 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 3, 2011. A gathering to follow at the fellowship hall in the church.
