Lewiston rallies past Viks

LEWISTON - Coeur d'Alene jumped out to the early lead, but defending state 5A champion Lewiston overtook the Vikings midway through the fourth quarter and went on to a 44-39 victory in a rematch of last year's state title game Tuesday night at Booth Hall.

Karlee Wilson scored a game-high 21 points for Lewiston (3-0, 1-0 5A Inland Empire League). She hit 13 of 18 free throws, including 7 of 8 in the fourth quarter. For the game, Lewiston was 19 of 29 from the line, Coeur d'Alene 7 of 11.

"We felt we played fast and quick, we just didn't get the calls," Coeur d'Alene assistant coach Tony Gerimonte said.

Tisha Phillips added 13 points for Lewiston.

Kendalyn Brainard had 13 points and seven rebounds for Coeur d'Alene (3-1, 1-1), which plays at the Nike Northwest Invitational in Beaverton, Ore., beginning Thursday.

RATHDRUM - Allie Brown scored 20 points and the Blackhawks forced 23 turnovers in a nonleague win against the Hawks.

"We played two and a half quarters of pretty good basketball," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "For about a quarter and a half, we were pretty bad. We struggled offensively and Cheney got stronger as the game went on and we just struggled for some offensive continuity."

Cieana Close scored 12 points for Lakeland (2-3), which hosts Timberlake on Thursday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Aubree Wasmer and Jenna Gust scored 11 points apiece as the 3A Badgers overwhelmed the 2A Panthers in a nonleague game at Holy Family Catholic School.

"We're just trying to get over the hump of being a young ballclub," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Logan Grant said. "We're trying to get all the pieces to fit together and were a little intimidated going against a bigger school. Bonners Ferry played a man-to-man defense and got us off rythmn from the beginning."

Lexi Turkenburg had 16 points, 10 rebounds and six steals for Coeur d'Alene Charter (1-4), which hosts Clark Fork on Thursday at Holy Family.
