Valedictorian

Collin Hamman has taken a job with Outside Media, in Columbia Falls. He graduated as class valedictorian from the Northwest College of Art, in Poulsbo, Wash., with a double major in fine art and visual communications. He is a 2008 graduate from Flathead High School, and his parents live in Columbia Falls.

Journalism scholarship

Heather Jurva, a 2007 graduate of Columbia Falls High School, was recently awarded a $400 Melvin and Myrtle Lord Scholarship from the University of Montana School of Journalism. Jurva is a senior majoring in journalism.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
