Bardaro nets hat trick as Chiefs win home opener

SPOKANE - Anthony Bardaro recorded his second career hat trick as the Spokane Chiefs defeated the Tri-City Americans 7-2 in their Western Hockey League home opener Saturday night before 9,348 at the Spokane Arena.

Bardaro scored the first two goals of the game on the power play midway through the first period. Steve Kuhn added his first goal of the night with eight seconds remaining to give Spokane a 3-0 lead after the first period.

Bardaro scored his third goal six minutes into the second and captain Darren Kramer scored to give Spokane a 5-0 lead.

After a Tri-City goal, Collin Valcourt scored off a rebound of a Brenden Kichton shot to give Spokane a 6-1 lead after the second.

Kuhn scored his second goal of the night 1:39 into the third to cap the scoring for Spokane (1-1), which opens a two-game road trip at Vancouver on Wednesday.

Mac Engel had 31 saves for Spokane, which went 4 of 12 on the power play.
