NIC Dig Pink volleyball match set for Saturday

The North Idaho College volleyball team will hold a Dig Pink volleyball match at 3 p.m. Saturday in Christianson Gym against Eastern Utah.

Attendees are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Shirts will be available for purchase at the match.

All proceeds will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization that supports breast cancer awareness and is funded through volleyball-related events.

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for senior citizens and students. NIC students with a student ID and kids 10 and younger are free.

• NIC (13-7) plays host to NAIA Carroll College (15-6) of Helena, Mont., tonight at 7 in a nonconference match. Natalie Stewart, a sophomore setter from Coeur d'Alene High, is a setter for Carroll.

Zags' Harris named to Wooden Award preseason top 50 list

LOS ANGELES - Gonzaga junior forward Elias Harris has been named to the men's basketball preseason top 50 list for the John R. Wooden Awards, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Monday.

It's the second straight year Harris has been on the preseason list which was chosen by a poll of national college basketball media.

Slowed early in the season with a sore shoulder, Harris averaged 12.4 ppg and 6.0 rpg while starting 33 of 34 appearances last year for the Bulldogs, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament third round.
