WARDEN - The Warden High School football team continued its dominance in the 2B Central Washington South league with a 48-7 shellacking of the Shockers in Waterville Friday night.

"We were hitting on all cylinders," Cougar coach Erik Skone said. "We attacked on offense and got off our blocks and tackled well on defense and our special teams continue to be a big part of our success."

The Cougars got out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter on the arm of quarterback Trent Bates who tossed three TDs to three different receivers. Warden increased its lead to 34-0 at the half on scores by Osvaldo Alba, Conrad Ruge and Victor Flores.

Waterville managed to score in the third quarter, but the Cougars added two more of their own on a 70 yard bomb from Clement Tate to Matt Deshazer and a 20 yard pass from Bates to Ruge.

"We shut them down the entire game," Skone said. "But they were able  a score on a pass across the middle and our missed the tackle. We were in position, but didn't make the play."

The win solidifies the Cougars in first place with a 4-1 record, but the team has its work cut out for them, Skone said. The team travels to White Swan on Friday.

"They are coming off a big win against Kittitas, last year's league champion," he said. "So we need to start fast and need to score when we get into the red zone."
