Zetta Zane Zilla Matthews 84, formerly of Libby

Just before midnight Sunday, Sept.18,

2011, our mother and former Libby resident Zetta Zane Zilla

Matthews, passed away peacefully.

She was the third of seven children

born to Richard and Edna (Yoder) Zilla on Feb. 4, 1927. She was

84.

Zetta was raised on the North Dakota

plains near Wolford. She was well educated and received her BA in

Education from Jamestown College, Jamestown, North Dakota.

She met and married William T. Matthews

in Moscow, Idaho. They later moved to Oregon where Zetta taught

school and Bill completed medical school in Portland.

After completing residency in Spokane,

they set up practice and made their home in Libby where together

they raised their six children.

In 2001, Bill and Zetta moved to

Roseburg, Ore., to enjoy retirement.

Zetta was a gifted and avid knitter, a

talented and competitive Scrabble player and an authentic woman and

opinionated citizen.

She was a great gardener and was famous

for her delicious cinnamon rolls and homemade bread!

Survivors include her six children,

Mark Matthews (Michelle) of Sherwood, Ore.; Jay Matthews (Kim) of

Libby; Molly Matthews Woodruff (George) of Vashon Island, Wash.;

Kelly Matthews Spitzer (Rob) of Dillon, Mont.; Todd Matthews of

Missoula; and Tori Matthews Shelton (Chris) Coeur d’ Alene,

Idaho.

Zetta had 10 grandchildren: Amy, Jesse,

Deseri, Kari Jo, Ross, Alex, Sam, Emily, Dani and Evan as well as

five great grandchildren, Sage Zane, Jared, Noah, Jaycee Lou and

Emmett. Zetta is also survived by sisters Betty Luoma, Nancy

Motley, Barbara Powers and Mary Jo Brown.

She is preceded in death by her husband

Dr. William T. Matthews, her mother and father and brothers Jim and

Rick Zilla.

A private Celebration of Life will be

held by the family in the spring.
