They didn't get a victory, but the Columbia Falls boys soccer team played much better last week. The Wildcats lost to Polson 6-2 on Sept. 29 but played Libby to a draw Oct. 1, 2-2.

Against the Loggers, the boys fell behind 1-0 at the half, but in the second half, Luke Kazlauskas knocked in the first goal of his high school career at the 59-minute mark to make it 1-1. Libby took the lead again, but with 10 minutes left, Caleb Baumann hit a shot to tie the game and that's the way it ended.

The Cats had a tougher time against Polson as the Pirates shot out to a 4-1 lead at the half.

Coach Peter Browne said the score could have been tied but the Cats continued to show their lack of soccer experience at the high school level. The team simply has too many players who haven't played varsity soccer.

Still, there were bright spots. The Cats put goals in the net after coming off two weeks of being badly shut out.

"Dylan Corbett had a great game," Browne said of the Polson match.

The Cats finish off the season with a home game Thursday against Whitefish. Game time is 5:30 p.m. The boys are now 1-4-2 in league play and 1-8-2 overall.
