Kats dispatch Libby, Polson

They won the games they were supposed to. Now they need the streak to continue.
The Columbia Falls girls soccer team thrashed Polson 7-0 on Sept. 29 away and then hammered Libby 9-0 on Oct. 1 to improve their record to 7-0 in conference play last week.
The Kats now need to beat, tie or lose by just one to cross-valley rival Whitefish to take the Northwest A conference crown outright. The two teams face off Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Columbia Falls. In their last meeting, the Wildkats came from behind to win 4-3.
That means Whitefish, which is also undefeated in conference play, has to beat the Kats by two to win the conference. If the Lady Bulldogs win by one, Columbia Falls has the edge in the conference goal differential, which would break the tie.
But the Kats aren't looking at it like that, coach Greg Trenerry said.
"The focus is to win every game from here on out," he said.
The Kats allowed two early goals in their last meeting with the Bulldogs, so they'll be working on defensive adjustments this week to fix that, Trenerry noted.
It's been several years since the Kats and Dogs haven't split conference games.
If Columbia Falls takes the conference, they'll have a first-round playoff game at home. If they take second, they'll be on the road for the duration of the playoffs.
The Kats will need their high-offensive output to continue. McKenzie Kiser had a hat trick against Libby and scored two against Polson. Danielle Delventhal also had four goals on the week.
As a team, the girls out-shot Libby and Polson a combined 71-7.
