MOSES LAKE - The Lady Vikings turned in a gallant performance last night, but unfortunately it wasn't enough.

Big Bend Community College lost at home 3-0 (25-23, 25-21,25-23) to Blue Mountain Community College.

The loss dropped the Lady Vikings record to 1-6 in the NWAACC conference.

"I thought the girls played well about 98 percent of the time," coach Mike De Hoog said. "But the other 2 percent bit us a bit."

De Hoog said the team had hit a rough patch and was not playing well the past couple of weeks, but turned it around the last two games and played competitive. However, their hard work hasn't produced a more than one win so far this season.

The Timber Wolves got out to a 12-8 lead in the first game, but a 14-9 run by Big Bend, put the home team up 22-21. It looked as though the Lady Vikings were going to win the first set of the match, but Blue Mountain hung tough and came back to win 25-23.

The second game of the match was just as close, as both teams battled back and forth, with the lead changing hands several times. Big Bend went up 22-16 on the strength of an 11-5, but couldn't hold on, dropping the set 25-21.

The Vikings were up 16-7 in the third game of the match, but seemed to run out of gas as they fell to the league-leading Timber Wolves 25-19.

"We had our chances, but we let it slip away" De Hoog said. "Blue Mountain is a tough opponent. They are the defending league champions and are in a three-way tie with Walla Walla and Spokane Community College for first place."

The road weary Vikings have only played three matches at home, and hit the pavement again next Wednesday, Oct. 12, take on Spokane.

"It seems like we have been living out of out of our suit cases for the first half of the season," De Hoog said. "So, we are looking forward to the second half of the season as most of our games are at home, where we have been playing well."
