COEUR d'ALENE - Once the Coeur d'Alene Vikings got Friday's nonleague game against the Moscow Bears off and running, they weren't going be stopped.

Tailback Carlos Martinez had eight carries for 121 yards and three touchdowns in the first half as the top ranked 5A Coeur d'Alene Vikings beat the Moscow Bears 55-0 in a nonleague game at Viking Stadium on Friday night.

Coeur d'Alene built a 41-0 lead after Chad Chalich completed his third touchdown pass of the first half to Levi Pereira with 4:14 left in the second quarter. Following the conversion, both teams agreed to a running clock for the remainder of the game.

During Coeur d'Alene's bye week, Moscow had expressed concerns about the game and had looked at forfeiting the game before both sides came to an agreement last Saturday.

Sophomore tailback Shawn Montee ran for 90 yards and two touchdowns in the second half for Coeur d'Alene (6-0).

"He's a good little back for us," Coeur d'Alene coach Shawn Amos said of Montee. "We're really excited for his future here."

Chalich completed 13 of 18 passes for 245 yards for Coeur d’Alene, which opens 5A Inland Empire League action on Friday against Lewiston at Coeur d’Alene High.

“We’ve been so focused on football this season that we didn’t think too much about it,” Amos said of hubbub leading up to the Moscow game. “We’ve just been going out and playing football and prove it each week. We want to keep playing at a high level for the rest of the season.”

Brady Braun had 14 yards rushing for Moscow (3-3), which travels to Timberlake next Friday.

“Coeur d’Alene is a pretty darn good team,” Moscow coach John Sheaff said. “Coeur d’Alene came out and played a great brand of football tonight.”

Moscow will travel to Lakeland on Oct. 21 for a 4A Inland Empire League game.
