Swanson first in 30th Le Grizz 50 Mile Ultramarathon

Seth Swanson of Missoula was the overall winner of the 30th Le Grizz 50 Mile Ultramarathon on Saturday. Swanson's time - 5 hours, 57 minutes and 39 seconds.
According to a press release, he was the first runner to break the six-hour barrier since 1999.
The race was held along Hungry Horse Reservoir.
Seventy-four runners completed the race. Of those, 39 had never run 50 miles before.
Scott Gaiser of Kalispell had the best showing for Flathead Valley runners, placing ninth with a time of 7:27:43. Next was Mark Tarr of Columbia Falls, 18th in 8:10:33.
Tarr received the Chief 10 Bears Lifetime Achievement Award afterwards for completing 20 Le Grizz runs. Tarr set the course record of 5:34:38 in 1996.
Tor Gudmundsen of Helena was second overall and took the Masters Division (ages 40-49) with a time of 6:23:17.
In the Seniors Division (over 50), Richard Boud of Layton, Utah, was first, posting a time of 8:19:25.
For women, Alyssa Shaw of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Masters runner Debbie Gibson of Helena shared first place as both finished in 7:59:22. Mary Ann Clute of Spokane, Wash., was the first Seniors runner in with a time of 10:09:04.
Le Grizz is USA Track and Field's 50 Mile Championship for Montana.
Swanson, and both Kristina Pattison of Missoula and Katie Gibson of Lolo, who tied in 8:34:49, took the Montana honors in the Open Division. Montana Masters winners were Gudmundsen and Debbie Gibson.
Mike Otterberg of Fort Peck was awarded the 10 Bears award, a plaque clock for completion of 10 Le Grizz runs.
