Thief just needed a nicotine fix

COEUR d'ALENE - Some people would rather break in than break the habit.
A 27-year-old Coeur d'Alene woman reported that someone broke into her unlocked car late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning and stole a pack of cigarettes.
Left untouched by the suspect was the woman's iPod dock and checkbook, which had been left in the 2006 Volkswagen parked overnight on Front Avenue near the intersection of 14th Street, according to a police report.
When the woman returned to her car at around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, she noticed the driver's door ajar. Both the glove box and center console of the vehicle were open and items from those compartments were strewn about the vehicle.
But there was no damage to the vehicle and the only thing missing was the pack of Marlboro Light smokes, valued at $5.
The victim could not provide any suspect information.
It was one of eight reports police received in that time from that neighborhood regarding similar auto burglaries. The victims reported that their cars had been rummaged through. Some said nothing had been taken while others reporting sunglasses and wallets had been stolen.
