MOSES LAKE - Runners and walkers crossed the finish line at Saturday's Dollar Dash to the sound of lively rock music and cheering and clapping.
After finishing the 5K route in front of Big Bend Community College's ATEC Center, Ron Strnad, of Moses Lake, called the event "invigorating."
He hasn't ran for about 10 years and said he would take part in the event again.
"It's for a good cause," he said.
His wife, Hope Strnad, walked the race route.
"They're having a good time," she said. "It's perfect weather. Anything for our students."
The Big Bend Community College Foundation's first ever Dollar Dash netted more than $2,100, with 58 runners participating, according to Nancy Tracy, of the foundation.
Another runner, Julianne Yamane, finished the event with her daughter, Hallie Yamane, 7. Julianne ran across the finish line with a big smile on her face.
"It was great. It was a beautiful day," Julianne Yamane said.
Saturday's was Hallie Yamane's first race. The mother and daughter walked the route.
"I carried her a little bit, but we made it," Julianne Yamane said.
Barbi Schachtscheider and Dayna Jennings, of TeamReliv, were serving warm and cold hydrating beverages to racers.
They attended to provide their support and get the TeamReliv name out, but don't take names down, they explained.
"It's just community support," Schachtscheider said. "I think it's been a wonderful event. The college foundation does so much for our students. There are so many who couldn't be in college without them."
One of the event's organizers, Judy Oakes, gave "a big thank you to all who helped."
She recognized the sponsors - Hairclub, Columbia Basin Herald, Venue Magazine, Michaelle Boetger Graphic Designs, Business Interiors & Equipment, Moses Lake Parks and Recreation, Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce, Moses Lake Trails Planning Team, ShirtBuilders Custom Printing & Embroidery, TeamReliv, Ecret Entertainment, Bruce Snyder State Farm Insurance and the foundation.
