Stealing sunglasses at night

COEUR d'ALENE - Vehicle burglars raked it in during the last few days, thanks to car and truck owners leaving high-priced items inside and doors unlocked.

Late Wednesday or early Thursday, burglars helped themselves to a $160 pair of sunglasses, a $60 watch, and a wallet with multiple credit and debit cards and $100 cash, all inside an unlocked 1992 Toyota Corolla on the 400 block of west Vista Drive.

A police report said the credit and debit cards were used at multiple locations, including a Spokane Valley Walmart store for $104, and a Fred Meyer location for $114 and $76, among other purchases.

The same night, an unlocked vehicle and reportedly locked vehicle were hit by burglars on the 4300 block of west Laurel Avenue. The vehicles were entered without damage, a police report said.

From a 1999 Jeep Wrangler and 1994 Chevy S10 pickup truck, the thieves snatched an iPod touch 32 GB for $500, GPS unit for $250, Oakley brand sunglasses for $160, and a toolbox with multiple hand tools valued at $100.

Two unlocked vehicles on the 4900 block of north Canterbury Road were rummaged through, but burglars found nothing of value.

Also that night, an unlocked 2007 Ford Expedition on the 4100 block of north Lancaster Road was entered by burglars, and a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses valued at $350, a small bag of quarters and a flashlight valued at $30 were taken.

The next night, burglars got into a 2005 GMC Yukon, with unlocked doors, on the 3200 block of north Wedgewood Loop. The items taken included at $200 digital camera, iPod touch 16 GB valued at $200, an MP3 player valued at $50 and workout gear, including two racquetball racquets. The exercise gear had a combined value of $200.

A 2004 Chevy pickup truck with unlocked doors and a boat were entered by burglars on the 2700 block of west Bolivar Avenue.

Inside the truck, burglars attempted to pull out the center console DVD mount, damaging it beyond repair. The damage estimate was $1,100.

The thief or thieves made off with a satellite radio valued at $200, a Cobra radar detector for $200 and loose change of $10.

Missing from the boat was two Buck knives valued at $100 and a camera.

On Sunday, the rear driver-side window was smashed out of a 1996 Nissan Altima at 1628 N. Fourth St., at Corner Bar.

A CD player valued at $150 was stolen, along with school text books valued at $200 and a Nautica brand backpack for $30, a police report said.
