Adams, Gookin, Sayler have most donations

Coeur d'Alene City Council Seat 5 candidate Steve Adams leads all incumbents and challengers in campaign donations, bringing in $5,673 in financial support.

Close behind are Coeur d'Alene candidates Dan Gookin and George Sayler, both of whom are vying for Seat 3.

The deadline for election candidates to file pre-general financial disclosure reports was Monday.

Here's a list of contribution and expenditure totals heading into the Nov. 8 election for the cities of Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Hayden and Rathdrum:

Coeur d'Alene City Council

Seat 1: Incumbent Ron Edinger has raised $2,525, having spent $25, which leaves $2,500 on hand. His biggest contributions came from Patrick Acuff, $220, Robideaux Motors, $300, and Waste Management, stationed in Houston, which donated $250.

Challenger Adam Graves has $1,750 in total contributions, with $1,064 after expenditures. He loaned his campaign $300, while his biggest donor is listed as Thomas Magnuson of Spokane for $1,000.

Seat 3: George Sayler, $4,252 in donations, ending with 4,072 after expenditures. His biggest donations come from Arthur Flagan for $500, the Coeur d'Alene Tribe with $1,000 and Anne Nesse with $300.

Dan Gookin has raised $4,382 in total contributions, having spent $328, he ended with $4,054 in hand. His big loans include $2,000 from himself, $999 from Brent Reagan, and $500 from Kathy Sims.

Derec Aujay, Annastasia Somontes, and Pat Mitchell haven't raised or spent any money.

Seat 5: Incumbent John Bruning shows $1,771 in total contributions, with $1,702 remaining after $69 in expenses. A self loan for $200 and $200 from Douglas Fagerness are his biggest donations.

Challenger Steve Adams has $5,673 in total contributions. With $1,695 in expenses, he's left with $3,977. Charles and Mary Adams each donated $1,000. James Hollingsworth donated $500 and Regan Properties LLC donated $999.

Seat 5 challenger Amber Copeland has raised $220 in contributions, having spent $13, ending with $206. Carole Gibson and Sam Crawford each contributed $100.

Post Falls City Council

Seat 1: Incumbent Kerri Thoreson reported $715 in contributions, including $250 from Gary Schneidmiller. Expenditures totaled $693. Challenger Joe Bodman reported no contributions.

No report had been received by the city as of 5 p.m. Tuesday from challenger Jim Edgington.

Seat 3: Incumbent Scott Grant reported no contributions.

Challenger Joe Malloy reported $2,290 in contributions, including $500 each from Patrick Malloy and Charlotte Rogers Brown, $250 from Larry Gilman and $200 from Leonard and Julia Malloy. Expenditures totaled $1,549.

Seat 5: Incumbent Skip Hissong and challenger Barry Rubin each reported no contributions. Rubin reported taking out $472 on a credit card for printing costs.

Hayden Mayor

Incumbent Mayor Ron McIntire reported no contributions.

Challenger Nancy Lowery has reported total contributions of $6,720. Of that amount, $6,500 was a new loan. Lowery has received donations from Barbara Bennett of Hayden for $50; and from Harry Amend of Coeur d'Alene for $100. She donated $65 to her campaign. She spent $5,565 on broadcast advertising (radio, TV and Internet), and $475 on other advertising (such as yard signs).

Hayden City Council

Seat 3: Incumbent city councilmember Roger Saterfiel, who is running unopposed, has reported no contributions.

Seat 1: Council candidate Tim Timmins has raised $100, with a contribution by Dennis and Sally Spencer of Coeur d'Alene. His opponent, Kris LaMarr, who also happens to be McIntire's son-in-law, has reported no contributions.

Rathdrum

Mayor: Challenger Kevin Randles reported a $3,000 in-kind cash contribution to his campaign. He has spent $1,200. Mayor Vic Holmes reported a $250 contribution from Tim Skubitz and no expenditures.

Council Seat 4: Incumbent Debbie Holmes and write-in challenger Len Newton both reported no contributions.

Council Seat 2: The city didn't receive a report as of 5 p.m. Tuesday from incumbent Fred Meckel, who is running unopposed.

The bones are old; no longer a police matter

The bones uncovered Tuesday afternoon on a construction site in downtown Coeur d’Alene have been determined to be from 50 to 200 years old.
