Royal 49, LaSalle 7
ROYAL CITY - Royal's Damien DeLaRosa broke loose over left tackle on the first play from scrimmage for 40 yards and a score to start the night.
Royal High School pounced on LaSalle in South Central A Conference cross-over non-league football contest 49-7 last Friday night.
Royal improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Conference. It will travel to River View (5-1, 3-1) this Friday.
River View throws the ball a lot, much like Burbank. But the Panthers have been running lately, according to coach Wiley Allred.
River View's lone loss was by 29-7 to Burbank, which was manhandled by Royal, 42-7.
Allred is not looking for an easy time of it.
"They always play us with a lot of confidence," he said.
Opening last Friday's game, DeLaRosa took a handoff from quarterback Alex Myrick running to his left and found a gaping hole opened by lead blocking back Christian Guerrero, Curt Christensen, Abel Castellon and Brady Dixon.
Then Royal scored on LaSalle's first possession, as the LaSalle Lightning went backward for a while. Kent Christensen of the Knights caught a LaSalle running back in his end zone for a safety and 9-0 lead.
Guerrero capped the first period scoring blitz with a 5-yard run to make the score 16-0.
LaSalle scored in the second period, but Royal got 13 more points to put the game out of reach, 29-7, at the half.
Scoring in the second quarter were Dixon on a 1-yard plunge and Guerrero on a 24-yard pass from Myrick.
The second-half scoring came on an 8-yard pass from Myrick to Danny Vermeer, a 7-yard run by Dixon and a 65-yard interception return by Guerrero.
DeLaRosa led the rushers with 89 yards on six carries. Alex Ramirez carried 11 times for 65 yards, Myrick ran eight times for 45 yards, Guerrero had three carries for 12 yards, and Dixon carried twice for eight yards.
Myrick connected on 16 of 20 passes for 160 yards and was not intercepted. His leading receiver was Vermeer with 43 yards on six catches.
Guerrero caught four passes for 35 yards, Ricky Ramirez caught two for 14 yards and Dixon, Alex Ramirez, Johnny Villanueva and DeLaRosa had single receptions for 28, 21, 13 and six yards respectively.
