MOSES LAKE - Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal is requesting public assistance to identify the body of a deceased woman found Saturday near Brewster.

At about 5:15 p.m. deputies responded to the intersection of Crane Orchard Road and Whitley Canyon Road, where a citizen had found what appeared to be a human body, according to Gjesdal.

Deputies located the body of a female a short distance from the roadway. The deceased had suspicious injuries and the case is being treated as a homicide, he stated.

The identity of the woman is unknown and the sheriff's office is asking the public to help identify the woman.

The victim is described as an adult female, possibly Hispanic or Native American, between 20 and 40 years of age, 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing between 130 and 150 pounds.

She was wearing a silver colored ring with a purple stone on her left middle finger as well as a square faced watch with a black band on her left wrist, Gjesdal stated.

The victim has a small tattoo of a flower on her left breast and a vertical scar just below her navel, he added.

An autopsy is pending.
