The tenth out of 12 children, his parents Ron and Edna Downs had their hands full. Richard Lyle Downs was born Aug. 23, 1946, in Oregon City, Ore.
On Oct. 8, 2011, Rick, a Post Falls resident, was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident in Cheney, Wash. He was riding with his fellow brothers, The Combat Vet Riders.
With his wife Casey the couple had between them seven children. Their names were Jason Peddle, Jeremiah, Nichole Downs, Jessica Downs, Travis Downs, Rebecca Downs, and John J. Downs.
At his death he was expecting his 15th grandchild.
He was a sweet and gentle soul. He loved and protected his wife and children.
Rick and Casey were inseparable until the very end. As he drew his last breath they were holding hands.
He has left behind not only his children and grandchildren, but brothers and sisters on the Downs' side.
His CVR group, or Combat Vet Riders, was his second joy. He loved riding, visiting and hanging out.
He said, "If the good Lord was to take me, let me be riding."
