Trojans score five in first half, cruise past Lewiston for beth to state

POST FALLS - Following their 6-0 win over Lewiston on Tuesday, the Post Falls Trojans boys soccer team popped the sparkling cider and let it fly.
They're going to state.
"It's a great win for us," Trojans' coach Gabe Lawson said. "This is the second time in three years we've gone to state."
Post Falls came into the 5A Region 1 tournament match undefeated, but just like the visiting Bengals, a loss on Tuesday would have ended their season.
“I told our team that we’ve been working hard since June for it to come down to one day,” Lawson said. “There is no way we give up four months of work.
“No way.”
Due to a no-show referee, the match was delayed 30 minutes while a replacement was summoned.
During the regular season, matches are able to be played with dual officials; however, the rules require three officials for regional tournament matches.
“It was not an ideal thing out here in the cold,” Lawson said of the wait. “But we just kept our focus during that break and we knew we wanted to make a statement early.”
That early statement came off the foot of Timmy Mueller, who put the Trojans (15-0-2, 6-0-1 5A IEL) on the board in the 10th minute off an assist from Matt Howard.
Mueller struck again in the 22nd minute, this time on a penalty kick after Lewiston’s goalkeeper, Reece Uhlorn, made contact with the sophomore inside the box.
“Timmy is a great player,” Lawson said. “He’s one of those players that can run at full pace and keep the ball within a foot of his feet. That’s very tough to do.”
Mueller also assisted Jesienouski in the 17th minute to put the Trojans up 2-0.
Lewiston had no answer for the possession game played by Post Falls. The Bengals had just three shots on goal and spent most of the game on the Trojan half of the field.
“We approached this like any other game,” Mueller said. “We just wanted to play strong, pass the ball around and play as a team. It’s worked so far.”
With the win, the Trojans set up a match with visiting Lake City on Saturday for the regional title. The two teams have met twice this season, with Post Falls winning 5-1 on Sept. 27. The teams tied 1-1 on Oct. 6.
Lawson added, “They put a scare in us in that game (the 1-1 tie). We struggled to get a quality shot on goal. I know Chad (Beadell, Lake City coach) will have his guys ready.”
