$145K lottery winner sold in Kootenai County

Saturday's jackpot won on Wild Card

Kootenai County has recorded its second jackpot winning ticket of the year, this time on Wild Card.

The Idaho Lottery confirmed that one winning ticket matched all five numbers and the Wild Card for Saturday night's draw. That winning ticket is worth $145,000.

The winning numbers for last night's draw are 3, 7, 11, 17, 27 and the Wild Card is the Jack of Clubs. This is the second Wild Card jackpot winning ticket sold in Idaho in the last six months. The other Wild Card winner was Boise's Kevin Russell, who won $614,731.

"Idaho continues to be a very lucky place for big winning tickets," said Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery director.

Idaho Lottery offices were closed on Monday in observance of the Columbus Day holiday. They will be open for regular hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. the rest of the week.

Kootenai County's other jackpot winner this year was Rathdrum's Holly Lahti, who won $190 million on Mega Millions in January.

Tribal land placed in federal trust

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe announced on Monday that about 86 acres of tribal land in Benewah County has been placed into a federal trust.

This places the land under tribal authority.

Although that means the property will no longer be subject to county property taxes, said tribal spokesman Helo Hancock, the Benewah County commissioners have shown their support throughout.

"We definitely think this is a step in the right direction to restore our ancestral lands," Hancock said.

The Department of Interior and the Bureau of Indian Affairs determines whether to grant a tribe's application to put land into a trust.

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe has also applied to put about 1,200 acres in Kootenai County into a trust. The tribe and commissioners have been pursuing an arrangement for the tribe to continue making payments to the county on the land even after it is put into a trust.

Negotiations on that are ongoing, Hancock said.

"It's still in very preliminary stages," he said.
