COEUR d'ALENE - Lake City High girls soccer coach Matt Ruchti has been preparing his Timberwolves squad since early August with the hopes of peaking at the right time.

Wednesday was that time.

Alyssa Allen scored two goals as the top-seeded Lake City Timberwolves won its sixth straight match, 3-2 over the fourth-seeded Coeur d'Alene Vikings in a 5A Region 1 tournament semifinal match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

Third-seeded Lewiston upset second-seeded Post Falls 2-0 at Post Falls in the other semifinal on Wednesday to advance to Saturday's regional championship match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

Allen opened the scoring less than four minutes into the match on a pass from Katie Hindberg to give Lake City the early lead.

"I was so scared coming into today," Allen said. "I've been hurt, so I was really excited to score in the game."

Allen missed parts of the season due to a sprained right MCL suffered during tryouts. She reinjured her knee last week and wasn't sure if she'd be at full strength for the match.

"I didn't think that this would happen for me this year," Allen said. "I felt I was off my game today. Getting to state is a great opportunity and a great feeling."

Allen scored again in the 26th minute after a Lake City shot slipped out of the hands of Coeur d'Alene goalkeeper Madi Williams and rolled into the goal to give Lake City a 2-1 lead.

"I thought the keeper made a nice play on the ball," Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. "I tell them to stay active on the ball, and Alyssa made a play."

Lake City (10-3-3) hosts Lewiston on Saturday at noon.

"We've got another big game on Saturday," Ruchti said. "We've been taking things one game at a time all season and are looking to peak at the right time."

Freshman Alissa Jolliff scored midway through the second half to give Lake City a 3-1 lead.

"We've got a really good group of players," Ruchti said. "They all work really hard and it's starting to pay off. I'm really proud of the group. Our speed has really been a blessing this year. We haven't had this much in a while and a lot of it is youth - but the young kids can play."

Meghan Lambert scored on a penalty kick in the first half for Coeur d’Alene, which finishes the season 5-9-2.

“I’m very proud of our team,” Coeur d’Alene coach Tarragh Carr said. “We learned a lot this season. It’s sad not to get the win, but I’m proud of the season we had.”
