ABCO Wood Recycling closes sites

POST FALLS - Post Falls-based ABCO Wood Recycling has closed its yards in Post Falls, Victor, Mont., and Richland and Moses Lake, Wash., due to "poor wood markets," according to the company's website.
An ABCO manager on Thursday told The Press that all of the firm's locations have closed with the exception of Spokane. He declined to comment further.
The website does not say whether the closures are temporary or permanent or how many employees are affected by the closures.
A sign on a locked gate at the Post Falls site at 3175 W. Seltice Way on the west side of the city says, "Yard closed."
Since North Idaho native Shawn Montee started the company in spring 2004, ABCO has taken in more than 2.1 million tons of wood waste and used it to generate electricity, create mulch, as well as other uses to keep it out of landfills, according to the company's website.
The company accepts all types of kiln-dried wood, pallets, lumber, new construction waste and building material. It recently began recycling some appliances at its Spokane location at 3704 E. Dalke.
The company first opened in Spokane, then in Post Falls a year later. The website states that locations in Wenatchee, Kalispell and Missoula are "coming soon."
