Andrea Caren Jones, 67, longtime resident of Moses Lake, lost her battle with cancer while attended by her loving husband at Lakeridge Special Care Center.
Caren was born to Anna Jane and Calvin Bolander in Bremerton, Washington on January 30, 1944, and grew up in Quilcene, Washington, where she graduated Valedictorian Class of '62. She moved to Seattle that year to work for Boeing, and the following year met the love of her life, Ron Jones, while he was attending the University of Washington. They were married in 1963 and children followed; Scott in 1965 and Ian in 1970. Their family lived for several years in Vancouver BC where Ron was in graduate school, and then moved to Moses Lake in 1971. Caren worked for two accounting firms in Moses Lake and attended Big Bend Community College where she obtained an Associate of Arts in Accounting. She then started a very successful computer accounting business and later taught that subject at Big Bend.
Besides her family, Caren had two passions and spent most of her free time on these. She was very active in the Moses Lake Lioness Club and served as Club President and also as District President for part of British Columbia and Washington. Caren was always trying to increase the volume of "Spaceburgers" that could be produced per hour and helped get the Lioness from the fry-pan to the large volume steam cooker. She also helped the Lioness get involved in the "Relay for Life" to raise funds for cancer research.
Her second passion was skiing and she was fearless. In spite of two serious ski accidents which sent her to the hospital, she never gave up the sport. Caren also loved to craft and was very talented at flower arrangements. She was a voracious reader and could consume a 750 page book in less than two days. She loved to travel with Ron, and loved all her friends in Moses Lake.
Caren is survived by her husband Ron, children Scott (Lynette) and Ian (Kathryn), four grandchildren, Taylor, Taren, Noah and Leighton, her sister Cindy Pollard and brother Robert Bolander. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Andy and a sister JoAnn.
We will all miss her energy and infectious smile.
