MOSES LAKE - Grant County Democrats are gathering in Moses Lake Saturday to promote economic justice, campaign finance reform and the rebuilding of the American dream.

"We are One - Jobs and Justice for the American Dream" is a rally and march scheduled to begin around 10 a.m. at 501 E. Fourth Avenue, one block north of Safeway off Pioneer Way.

People are invited to arrive early at 9:30 and create a sign expressing their personal message, according to organizer Carolyn DuVall, the publicity chair for the Grant County Democrats.

"Come show your mettle and let's march for jobs, not more cuts," she stated.

The event is inspired by several movements currently taking place around the country.

The first, Rebuild the Dream, is a growing number of people who are fighting for better pay and conditions for workers, DuVall stated.

"It's growing stronger by the day, and it's not going away until Americans can find jobs, afford to go to college, retire with dignity and secure a future for their children and their communities," she added.

The Moses Lake event was also sparked by the Occupy Wall Street movement, which DuVall called "an explosion of American energy to fight the injustices and greed of the 1 percent against the 99 percent of the rest of us."

Finally, DuVall and other local Democrats were inspired to rally by Get the Money Out, an organization working toward a constitutional amendment to remove corporate funding from political campaigns.

"The singular message, ending our corrupt government functions and the money that changes hands to facilitate it, is the one goal almost every one shares," DuVall stated.

Grant County Democrats State Committee Chair Kathy Sturm said she'll be dressed for a funeral march Saturday.

"I'm mourning the fact that my grandchildren will not have the opportunities that I have enjoyed," Sturm said.

DuVall encourages people interested in the various movements behind the Moses Lake event to visit their individual web sites.
