MOSES LAKE- The Lady Chiefs fought to the bitter end, but were unable to scratch out a win at home last night against the Richland Bombers.

The three set loss (25-23,25-14,25-23) was competitive, but Moses Lake came up on the short end of the scoreboard.

"I thought we played well ... had our moments," coach Amy Utter said. "Then there were times we didn't play so well."

The loss drops the Chiefs to 2-7, and fifth place in the league standings. But Utter said the seven losses doesn't necessarily mirror the skill level of the team.

"We are better than our record reflects," she said."We have been in every match this season. We just need to develop the confidence to get over the hump and close out games."

There are only three games left in the regular season and the Moses Lake needs to find a way to win two of them to be assured a spot in post season play. Six teams will make it to the district playoffs, with the top two earning first round byes.

The Chiefs gets a chance to prove they belong when they host Eisenhower Thursday.

"It's senior night, so there should be a lot of energy in the gym," Utter said. "Hopefully that will spur us on and we'll get a win and get ready for district."

Sadie Nielsen led the Moses Lake attack against the Bombers with 11 kills and 10 digs. Briana Valdez had five kills, Kenzie Fancher added 21 assists, and Taylor Sonnenberg finished with 30 digs.
