MOSES LAKE - Okanogan County sheriff's deputies arrested a man for the murder of Vickey L. Renner, whose body was found Saturday near Bridgeport in Douglas County.
Benjamin R. Bridges, 45, was booked into the Okanogan County Jail on suspicion of first degree murder, according to Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal.
Bridges was driving a vehicle in Omak Tuesday when he was stopped by law enforcement personnel, who were executing a search warrant on the residence he reportedly shared with Renner.
He was taken to the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office to be interviewed and Gjesdal said during the interview Bridges reportedly admitted to striking Renner on the head with a rock sometime around last Tuesday, saying she had died between Malott and Brewster.
Bridges reportedly admitted he took the body into Douglas County to dispose of it.
Earlier this week the Douglas County Sheriff's office requested help from the public in identifying Renner and then in finding the person responsible for her death.
The case was turned over to the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office because the death appears to have happened within their jurisdiction, Gjesdal said.
