MELODIC MOTIVATION OF THE HEART
For two years, I have walked down our street to listen to the practice of the combo, A Taste of Jazz. (I am the self elected President of the Fan Club).
I am sharing what I observe of this machine of musicians as they blend and spend their hours in making the hearts of all of us a better world in which to live.
I see a piece of paper spread out, upon which each one of them finds notes that blend to make the sounds we love. The hours they give to working, and it seems they so enjoy the instruments they wail from with energy most of us only wish we had. Some have two or three instruments they use. Some they have had for many years, and seem like old friends to them.
It fascinates me that they strive for perfection in the blend, and a few laughs too, every week, faithfully. If one can't make the rehearsal, they get another musician to fill in for them, which leads me to believe they have a great circle of people who are so willing to fill in for each other. The vocalist waits for her turn to make this a well-rounded group with her melodic sounds.
I am here to share the love of music, and especially, that I get to see what goes into the making of a combo of people who come together and make a sound people love to hear and dance to - yes, even people who can't dance anymore. They tap their feet, sing along, remember the time they first heard the song.
My heart applauds every time I have the privilege of watching their rehearsals, and yes, sometimes get to attend the gig where they share their sound.

How soon we become aware of age,
it makes our lives become a stage.
We are cast in roles from day one;
We do not know what we will become,
whose brothers or sisters, whose lives will we share;
and how many heartaches are waiting out there.
Some bring pride, some bring shame,
but because all of our love, we all take the blame. We all have to grow old, or so I am told, Some do it gracefully, others are bold. Growing old is not just gray hair,
It gives us time to look back on the loves we share. Families are so important!

WILLFUL NEGLIGENCE
I am not young, I am not old,
I'm in between, or so I'm told.
The time has come to make a will,
a daunting task I must fulfill.
I'd like to go before my wife,
for she'd get on just fine in life,
She'd like to go before I do,
but thoughts like that just make me blue.
We like to think we'll share that fate,
it's what we hope at any rate.
We can't agree on who goes first,
who's left behind to face the worst.
Perhaps a wreck will do the trick,
on winter roads that are too slick.
Perhaps a flame will make us toast,
and turn us both into a ghost.
We really are a happy pair,
both immature and unaware,
of how to plan beyond today,
unless it has to do with play.
It is not right, it is not good,
we do not do the things we should,
I guess we'll need an actual scare,
to face the facts and then prepare.
