DESERT AIRE - It was usual suspects in the battle for the Desert Aire Men's and Women's Club championships, competed recently at the Desert Aire Country Club.
Jack Eskildsen, who last won in 2002, claimed his sixth title. Linda Varney won her fourth title in a row.
Eskildsen's closest pursuer, Tom Couples, has won five Desert Aire Crowns. Mike Paulson, who won in 2009 and 2010, finished third. Varney's top challenger was Carolyn Holmes, who finished second for the third time.
Eskilden's was a comeback win. He was two strokes back of Couples (71) and tied with Paulson at 73 after the first round. He came back with a 2-under par 70 while Couples shot 73 and Paulson 75 on the second day.
Varney pulled away from the women's field with an 83 on the first day. Dree Leonard was on her heels with 85, but Leonard skied to 93 the second day to finish fourth. Holmes shot matching 88s for second place.
