EPHRATA - A fight between gang members and a mother getting her son at a George park reportedly led to a July drive-by shooting.

Prosecutors filed charges against Marcos A. Avalos Barrera, 21, Wenatchee, and Anthony Lucio, 25, Mattawa for three counts of assault in the first degree and drive-by shooting. Avalos Barrera is also charged with assault in the fourth degree.

Two brothers were at an aunt's house for a family gathering, when they reportedly heard about a fight happening at a George park. Their brother was at the park at the time, so they went with their mother to get him from the park, according to a Grant County sheriff's report.

When they arrived they saw their brother near a large amount of gang members fighting, according to the police report.

None of the men are involved in gangs.

When the woman got out of the vehicle to get their brother, Avalos Barrera reportedly approached her and started yelling. She responded by telling him she was their to pick up her son, according to court records. Avalos Barrera reportedly started "jumping around and acting crazy and yelling and grabbing his waistband," before approaching the woman and punching her.

The two men allegedly tried to separate their mother and Avalos Barrera, when another unidentified woman reportedly joined the fight, according to the police report. They managed to get away from the fight, and returned home.

Avalos Barrera reportedly called other gang members, including Lucio, telling them they were going after a rival gang, according to the police report. The two men reportedly left the group with a gun.

After returning home, their mother and one of the children went to Quincy Valley Medical Center because she was hurt after the fight, according to the police report. The two men along with their siblings were in the residence when a silver minivan drove by two or three times.

On the last pass, one of the men reportedly saw a shiny "gun-like object" come out the window, and heard shots, according to the police report. When the victim looked up, he saw they exited the van, and were approaching the house.

One of the victims suspected the shooters saw the 3- and 4-year-old children in the house and left, according to a police report.

Avalos Barrera reportedly fired the shots, according to the police report.
