Mulford "Tom" Park was born April 25, 1921, in Williamstown, N.J., to Mr. and Mrs. John William Park. He entered into heaven on Oct. 13, 2011, at Life Care Center of Post Falls.

He enlisted in the Army and was first stationed in Monterey, Calif., where he spent so much time at the USO Club staring at the "Hat Check Girl," also known as his beloved Jenny, that she took pity on Tom and married him. He continued to honorably serve his country as a sergeant, working in the motor pool while stationed in France during World War II.

When first discharged from the service, he and Jenny lived in New Jersey where he went to work with his father in the family Rustic Furniture business. They later moved to Monterey where he first owned and operated a Flying A gas station. As his family grew with addition of his two sons, he went into the real estate business. He first worked for George Decker, a generous employer and mentor. When he was ready to venture on his own, he opened his own real estate and insurance business, Park Agency. The "Hat Check Girl" now became his secretary. They remained in Monterey until he retired. After retirement they built a home in Corral de Tierra, Monterey County, and lived there until 1995.

Through many visits with his son, Bill, and family in Coeur d'Alene, Tom and Jenny fell in love with the area. They built their retirement home in Post Falls and have enjoyed being permanent residents ever since.

He loved the Lord and served Him in a multitude of ways, including being the Sunday School Superintendent for 35 years. Each time he tried to step down he was persuaded to serve another term. Other ways he served his church and the Lord were as a Deacon and the church treasurer. His favorite church hymn was "God Will Take Care of You." He lived his life with this belief.

Tom touched many lives with his sense of humor and warmth. He blessed all those he met and always tried to help those in need. He never met a stranger. Tom was always known for his unwavering positive attitude. He brightened everyone's day with his smile.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jenny; his two sons, Bill (Jean) of Coeur d'Alene, David (Karen) of King City, Calif.; six grandchildren, Colleen (Sam) Grove, Nicholas (Janet) Park, Denise Park, Michael Park, Tenille Justesen and Jody (Mike) Newey. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Autumn and Isaac Grove, Chelsti Skinner, Taryn (Caleb) Bailey, Candace Newey and Tanner Parsons; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Oliver; and his sisters, Margaret, Gertrude and Phyllis.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Lake City Lighthouse Church, 1583 W. Dalton Ave. (Corner of Dalton and Ramsey Road).

The family would really like to thank the staff at Life Care of Post Falls for their tender and compassionate care.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of North Idaho.
