Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 3 months AGO
Our Mom, Patricia Ruth Thompson (Bence) passed away at Hospice House in Hayden, on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, with her devoted son Larry and son-in-law Randy by her side. She had made Hayden her home since 2000 when she relocated from Bend, Ore.
She was born Feb. 28, 1933, to George T. Bence and Pauline S. Campbell (Moore) in Woodlake, Calif. She was the second of three children. Pat grew up in Visalia, Calif., where she met and married Norval "Tommy" Thompson on Jan. 13, 1948, in Yuma, Ariz. They were married for 52 years until his passing in 1999.
Pat was primarily a stay-at-home mom but also took care of the books for her husband's business T & R Drywall for many years.
She and Tommy lived in many places in California during the '40s and '50s. They moved north to Stayton, Ore., in the early '60s and then made their permanent home in Bend in 1964. They were blessed to have all five of their children graduate from Bend Senior High School.
Pat was a talented artist and spent several years painting old barns, landscapes and trees. She also enjoyed playing in slot tournaments in Reno, Nev. She liked collecting old coins, metal detecting and crocheting. She loved to cook and garden. Around 1978, Pat became interested in genealogy and spent the last 34 years tracing her family history at the LDS church, libraries and most recently on Ancestry.com. It was her passion.
Pat leaves behind four children, Larry Thompson of Hayden, Kevin Thompson of Redmond, Ore., Renay Smith of Hayden and Tonya Daniels of Hayden. She also has 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Peden (Thompson); her husband Tommy; her parents and both her brother and sister.
Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene, was in charge of the final arrangements. Her ashes will be taken to Bend to be buried next to Tommy at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Pilot Butte Cemetery
