COEUR d'ALENE - Pet Awareness Day really was a great day for dogs and cats in Kootenai County.

Five dogs, two puppies and four kittens were adopted as a result of the pet promotion at Super 1 in Hayden from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

"It was the best adoption outreach we have ever had," said Rondi Renaldo, executive director of the Kootenai Humane Society.

Several longtime KHS residents, including older labs Mac F. and Luce, and Dozer, a Great Dane/Shar Pei mix, were adopted, Renaldo said.

After seeing the animals at Pet Awareness Day, four people came to the shelter on Ramsey Road and adopted kittens.

"It's wonderful they will have a new home," Renaldo said.
