BELLEVUE - The Big Bend Community College (BBCC) volleyball team took a trip to the west side of the state to take part in a crossover tournament at Bellevue Community College Friday and Saturday.

BBCC finished third in pool play on day one, losing to Mt. Hood in two sets (25-11, 25-15), Shoreline Community in two sets (25-22, 29-27), and beating Clark Community College in two, (25-23, 25-14).

"We opened up against Mt. Hood, the second place team in the NWAACC South Division, and started out kind of slow," coach Mike DeHoog said. "We basically had to jump out of the vans and onto the court and play, so we were a bit cold needless to say. "

The second game of the day pit the Vikings against Shoreline, which is tied for first in the North Region conference. BBCC turned in a solid effort, but came up on the short end of the scoreboard.

"We didn't do anything wrong to lose the match," DeHoog said. "We just played a little too safe at the end and let it slip away."

The Vikings regrouped for the third match of the day, and came back to win against Clark in two sets, (25-23, 25-14).

"They were the No. 2 team in the West Division," DeHoog said. "We've played them in previous tournaments and had success against them as well."

Saturdays action saw BBCC drop its first match to Treasure Valley Community College in five sets, (25-21, 15-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-19).

"We lost the first set because we didn't even play close to our potential," DeHoog said. "We won the second fairly easy, lost the third because we let our foot off the gas and didn't attack. We took game four and then lost game five, 15-9."

DeHoog said the team had a hard time getting into rhythm because the level of officiating made it tough on both teams.

The second and final match of the day saw the Vikings take on Green River Community College. BBCC won the game in five sets (20-25, 15-25, 26-24, 25-13, 15,11).

"We lost the first two because we were playing uninspired," DeHoog said. "That can be partially attribute to the youth on our team."

The Vikings get another change to do battle with Treasure Valley as the two teams meet tonight at BBCC.

"We feel pretty confident going into the match," DeHoog said. "As soon as we lost to them on Saturday, the girls wanted to get right back on the floor and go at it again."

The match gets underway a 6 p.m.
