MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake Christian Academy maintained its grip on first place in CWB 'B' volleyball standings with a convincing three set (25-23, 25-14, 25-17) win over Wilson Creek last night.
The win for the Lady Lions improves their league record to 7-0 in league play and 9-0 overall. Wilson Creek drops to 5-3 and 5-5 overall.
"We started out kind of slow ... struggled with out serves," coach Dean Spurbeck said. "But things picked up once we got that part of our game going."
Game one of the match saw the Lady Devils get out to a 6-2 lead and ran the score to 12-6, but a 9-4 run by MLCA put the team up 16-15. The lead changed hands three more times until the Lions were able to put Wilson Creek away, 25-23.
Games two and three weren't much of a contest, as MLCA got out early in both and never looked back, taking the sets 25-14 and 25-17.
Hitter Rachel Verhage led the way for the Lions with 21 kills. Setter Selena Styren had 21 assists, and Naomi Verhage finished with five aces.
MLCA steps out of league action Thursday when the team hosts Entiat. The match is set for 5:30 p.m.
"Its been a while since we've played them ... about four years I think." Spurbeck said. "But I expect the match to be very competitive."
