Lake City, Post Falls to play for 5A region title

COEUR d'ALENE - Jen Schuman had 14 kills as the top-seeded Lake City Timberwolves defeated the fourth-seeded Coeur d'Alene Vikings 25-15, 25-12, 25-20 in the semifinals of the 5A Region 1 volleyball tournament Thursday night at Lake City.

Camille Rounds added 17 assists for Lake City (18-5), Mackenzie Brown had nine digs, Kasey Widmyer had four blocks, and Kylie Curtis had 10 kills and five aces.

"We started strong and stayed strong through all three games - we never let up," Lake City assistant coach Laura Tolzmann said.

Anyssa Matheson had seven kills, Taylor Gould eight digs for Coeur d'Alene (10-15). Michelle Flannery had 11 assists and three blocks for the Vikings.

The tournament concludes Saturday at Lake City.

Coeur d'Alene plays Lewiston at 1 p.m. in a loser-out match. Lake City plays Post Falls at 2:45 in the championship match for a berth to state. The two remaining teams play at 4:30 for the region's second berth to state.

Lewiston

POST FALLS - Tori Bertsch had 21 assists as the second-seeded Trojans beat the third-seeded Bengals 25-18, 25-14, 25-21 in the semifinals of the 5A Region 1 tournament at The Arena.

Ashley Jibby had 14 kills, Danielle Failor four blocks, Jazmin Chavez six aces and 10 digs for Post Falls (29-6), which faces Lake City in the championship match Saturday at 2:45 p.m. at Lake City High.

"I thought we served the ball pretty well tonight," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "We had 13 aces as a team and 31 digs, so our defense played pretty well."

Lewiston (13-10) faces Coeur d'Alene in a loser-out match at 1 p.m. at Lake City High.

Bonners Ferry

ST. MARIES - Marlee Masterson had 16 kills and six digs as the Lumberjacks beat the Badgers 25-14, 25-16, 25-17 on senior night in the Intermountain League finale for both schools.

Jaylee Sines had 29 assists, Mariah Gladden nine kills and seven blocks and Abbey Anderson and Kristina Halvorsen six digs each for St. Maries (22-8, 8-0 IML), which faces the winner of the Kellogg-Bonners Ferry match at noon in the 3A District 1 tournament on Saturday at Lakeland High in Rathdrum.

Ally Merrifield had eight digs, Tessa Payne six aces and Ivy Dirks nine assists for Bonners Ferry, which faces Kellogg in a loser-out match on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Mullan

MULLAN - Olivia Kincheloe had 11 assists and three digs as the Warriors beat the Tigers 25-22, 20-25, 25-13, 25-20 in a 1A Division II District 1 semifinal match at the Pavilion.

Brie Benson had 11 kills and Ellison Schultz two blocks for Kootenai (5-12), which travels to Clark Fork (19-4) in the championship match Saturday at 6 p.m.

Sydni Kotschevar had 11 assists and eight blocks and Morgan Koenig eight kills for Mullan, which concludes the season 7-11.

MOSCOW - Alexis Bassett had 19 digs for the Royals in a 25-15, 25-16, 26-24 loss to the Knights in a Mountain Christian League match.

Hannah McCauley had seven assists and Kana Shanley had five kills for North Idaho Christian (6-12, 4-10 MCL), which travels to Christian Center of Hayden on Monday.
