SANDPOINT - Mitch Bevacqua scored from 17 yards out in the fourth quarter as the Lake City Timberwolves rallied to beat the Sandpoint Bulldogs in a nonleague game at Barlow Stadium on Friday night.

Lake City lost starting quarterback Bruce Shipley to injury in the first half following a blindside sack by Nick Margo, but Bobby Traverse stepped in and completed 12 of 17 passes for 107 yards.

"Bobby showed a ton of courage and determination, and it shows what kind of team guy he is," Lake City coach Van Troxel said. "I want to commend Sandpoint for coming out and playing their tails off."

Bevacqua also had a 90-yard kickoff return and Danny Brum returned a fumble 60 yards for a touchdown for Lake City (5-3), which hosts Coeur d'Alene in a 5A Inland Empire League game Thursday.

Lake City's Chris Williams ran for a team-high 84 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown to tie the game at 21 early in the fourth quarter.

Sandpoint (1-7) concludes the season at Moscow (3-5) next Friday.
