Action heats up in CWAC play

EPHRATA - East Valley's Bobby Martinez was a real workhorse for the visiting Red Devils as he ran for 188 yards on 20 carries against the Tigers Friday.

Martinez also scored the winning touchdown on a 56-yard dash late in the fourth quarter, for a come from behind 25-17 win over Ephrata. 

It was the second time in the last two weeks the Tigers lost the lead late at home and were beaten.

Ephrata got out to an early 10-0 lead that held up though the first quarter, on a 31-yard field goal by Tyler Hensley and a 59-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Clark to Jonnie Green.

East Valley answered back with the only points of the second quarter on a 38-yard field goal, and a 1-yard run by David Garza to knot the score 10-10.

The Tigers put seven points on the board in the third quarter on a 4-yard run by Dakota Blair to take a 17-10 lead.

But the Red Devils, ignited by an interception and 23-yard TD reception by Kris Janis, rang up 21 unanswered points to snatch the victory.

Ephrata's Tyler Clark was 13 of 22 for 230 yards Jonnie Green caught three balls for 109 yards..

Easy Valley improved its record to 4-3 in the CWAC, while the Tigers dropped to 1-6. Ephrata travels to Ellensburg Friday to take on the second place Vikings.

SELAH - Quarterback David Garza passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third as Othello won its fourth straight game in CWAC play.

The win improves the Huskies to 6-1 in league action and keeps Othello in a tie with Ellensburg for first second place, one game back of Prosser at 7-0.

The Huskies took a 14-0 halftime lead on a 1-yard run by Joey Gomez, a 6-yard pass from Garza to Gomez, and a 2-point conversion from Garza to Dustin Rogers.

Caleb Garza returned a punt 90 yards for an Othello touchdown for the first score of the second half to put the Huskies up 21-0.

The Vikings defense came up big for Selah in the third quarter as Cody Roberts recovered a fumble in the Huskie end zone to close the gap to 21-7.

Othello put 14 points on the board in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard run by David Garza, and a 22-yard pass from Garza to Trevor Walker to round out the scoring, 35-7.

Caleb Garza rushed for 134 yards on 23 carries and David Garza completed 11 of 24 passes for 172 yards for Othello. The Huskies hit the road Friday to take on the 1-6 Greyhounds.

PROSSER - Isaac Anderson ran for 186 yards on eight carries and scored three touchdowns as the third-ranked Mustangs remained undefeated (9-0) in the CWAC standings.

Prosser raced out front 28-0 through three quarters of play. The Mustangs got scores from quarterback Ryan Fassler to Danny Raap, two TDs runs of 39 and 79 yards by Anderson, and a 4-yard run by Joey Hurtado.

The Jacks lone score came in the fourth quarter on an 11-yard run by quarterback Jacob Durfee. Prosser got a 33-yard field goal from Cesar Lopez and a 53-yard touchdown run by Anderson, his third of the game to rout Quincy 38-7.

Fassler threw for 263 yards and 12 completions and the Mustangs ground attack ran wild with 362 rushing yards.
