Girls take 4th, boys 12th

The Columbia Falls girls cross-country team came just short of medaling at the state Class A meet in Missoula on Oct. 15.

The Wildkats were led by Jinise Osborne, who took 11th with a time of 19:34. She was followed by Samantha Mundel, 20th, 20:05; Tori Price 38th, 20:40; Meredith Stolte, 39th, 20:42; Carlee Brown, 50th, 21:06; and Cami Casazza, 53rd, 21:17.

"I'm extremely proud of the girls' effort," coach Richard Menicke said. "It was a great season for the girls."

On the boys side, Derrick Williams won the race (see related story) but the team finished 12th overall. Zayne Brunz was 46th with a time of 17:22, followed by James Ratzlaff, 49th, 17:23; Shawn Roberts, 88th, 18:15; Austin Dumay, 89th, 18:16; Kyle Hudson, 96th, 18:30; and Ben Burgess, 129th, 21:02.

Corvallis won the boys and girls titles.

Experts forecast flooding by area rivers and streams

With continued cold weather, the potential for flooding by area rivers and streams has increased, the National Weather Service warned last week.

Search suspended for missing skiers

The search in Grand Teton National Park for two men with ties in the Flathead has been suspended because of inclement weather. The men are believed to be lost in an avalanche.
