Warden Cougar football beats Lake Roosevelt

WARDEN - Lake Roosevelt strolled into Warden Friday night looking to steal a win and get back in the thick of things in the 2B Central Washington South conference.
But the Cougars would have none of it as they turned back the Raiders 47-22.
"We ran the ball well and threw the ball well," coach Erik Skone said. "We were efficient on offense and made some good defensive plays too."
Warden put 25 points on the board before Lake Roosevelt knew what hit them. But the Raiders managed to get eight back in the waning seconds of the first half. to trail 25-8.
"They got a touchdown with five seconds to go," Skone said. "We made a couple of bad attempts on tackles and they were able to get it in the end zone."
Lake Roosevelt scored the only points in the third quarter and got within 11 at 25-14, but Warden put 22 points on the board to the Raiders eight to cruise to a 47-22 victory.
Tough defense and determined offensive line play, Skone said, were key to the win.
"We made some big stops early on and put them in third and long situations," he said. "And the 'O' line did the best job of run blocking all year."
Running back Adam Hansen came up big for Warden with 193 rushing yards on 20 carries. He also caught two passes for 56 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Trent Bates was connected on 10-of-21 passes for 158 yards.
The Raiders ran for 256 yards on 49 carries, but the Cougars shut down their passing game, limiting Lake Roosevelt to 23 yards on tow completions.
Warden offensive lineman Carmello DeLeon scored a touchdown on a 7-yard run, and outside linebacker Ernesto Orosco had 14 solo tackles for the Cougars.
The win runs Warden's league record to 3-1in league play. The loss drops Lake Roosevelt to 2-2.
The Cougars travel to Soap Lake for the last game of the regular season. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
