Edward F. Sverdrup, 82, of Libby died
at his home Thursday Oct. 20, 2011, from natural causes.
He was born Feb. 24, 1930, in Buffalo,
N.Y., to Edward and Marjorie (Schipper) Sverdrup.
He grew up and attended school in
Buffalo and graduated from Kensington High School with the class of
1947. He attended the University of Buffalo where he earned a
bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Ed then attended Carnegie Mellem
University in Pittsburg, Penn., where he earned his PhD in
Electrical Engineering. After earning his PhD, he entered the U.S.
Navy and served in the Philippines. He would later go on to teach
at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. and at his alma mater,
Carnegie Mellem. He would later go on to work in the research
department for Westinghouse.
Ed retired in 1988. On Sept. 6, 1972,
Ed married Nuala A. Fitzgerald. Ed enjoyed restoring old homes,
gardening and history. His wife Nuala preceded him in death in June
of this year.
Survivors include his brother Larry
Sverdrup and wife Emily of Libby; a sister Carol Phillips and
husband Robert of Canada and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were Wednesday Oct. 26, 2011
at 1 p.m. at the Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home, 422 W 2nd
St., in Libby.
Visitation was at the funeral home from
1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
