HELENA -  The Glacier boys soccer team fell behind early, fought back late and came up just short.

The Wolfpack lost 2-1 to the Eastern division's No. 1 seed Bozeman in the opening round of the Class AA playoffs Thursday.

Bozeman's Sam Werner scored in the 14th minute on a penalty kick to get the scoring started.

"For the remainder of the first half, we were on our heels reacting to the play of Bozeman," Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke said.

The 1-0 score stood until the 57th minute when Joe Siderius buried a shot in the back of the net after a pass from Jake Lockwood.

"The angle on Joe's goal seemed impossible," O'Rourke said.

"He was off to the left of the goal and just crushed the ball past the near post. The Bozeman keeper did not have a chance to save it."

O'Rourke said it seemed as though the Wolfpack could ride the momentum to another quick score.

But an injury to team captain Josiah Bumgarner in the 70th minute had a negative impact on the team's intensity.

Ben Hietala broke the tie with a goal five minutes later.

"Losing Josiah in the critical moments of the game was a loss that we did not have time to recover from," O'Rourke said.

"The guys continued to play hard, but we could not find the goal we needed to equalize in the final moments of the game."

Glacier (4-6-4) will play Missoula Sentinel (6-2-5) in a loser-out match today at 11 a.m.
